How do spiders construct their webs

1 min read

How do you view a spider web? Do you agree with me that it is a pretty design, neatly woven around; but unfortunately it is now of a trap than a home for spiders.

Spiders spin their web from silk which is pumped out from tiny nozzles at the back of the abdomen, called spinnerets. As the silk is stretched by the spider into a thread it hardens and becomes proportionately stronger than steel.

Some of these threads are quite sticky, while others simply support the web. The spider is able to feel the vibrations of the web when an insect flies into it and it then runs quickly across the web to capture its prey.

Usually the insect is wrapped in silk before being eaten by the spider.
